Biofeedback Therapy

What Is Biofeedback Therapy?

Biofeedback therapy is a non-invasive technique that uses specialized equipment to monitor your body’s involuntary functions, including heart rate variability (HRV), heart rate, muscle tension, and breathing patterns. Sensors detect physiological changes and provide real-time feedback. Over time, you learn to better regulate your body’s response to stress and anxiety. Biofeedback therapy is often used alongside Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more.

Biofeedback therapy uses a system called HeartMath® to measure your heart rate variability (HRV) and help you regulate your nervous system. HeartMath syncs your breathing with your heart rhythms to support a calmer, more regulated state.

We often don’t realize all the ways our body responds to stress, depression, and anxiety. With biofeedback therapy, you can become aware of your body’s reactions and learn practical tools to improve emotional and physical well-being.

What Can Biofeedback Therapy Help With?

For individuals with phobias or anxiety disorders, biofeedback can help increase awareness of fear responses while building tools to regulate the nervous system during moments of distress.

How Does Biofeedback Work?

Biofeedback works by measuring signals from the body that are often outside of conscious awareness.

During sessions, sensors may monitor:

  • Heart rate variability (HRV)

  • Breathing and respiration patterns

  • Nervous system activation

  • Physiological signs of stress or tension

This information is displayed in real time, allowing you to observe how your body responds during moments of stress or emotional activation.
