Break Free from Obsessions and Compulsions

What Is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition marked by persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce distress. These symptoms can interfere with daily life, relationships, and emotional well-being.

You may know your fears are irrational—but that doesn’t stop the cycle. The good news? OCD is treatable.

Common Obsessions:

  • Fear of contamination (germs, illness, chemicals)

  • Fear of harm (to self or others)

  • Intrusive taboo thoughts (sexual, violent, religious)

  • Need for symmetry, order, or “just right” feelings

  • Fear of making a mistake or being responsible for a catastrophe

Common Compulsions:

  • Excessive cleaning or handwashing

  • Repeated checking (locks, appliances, health)

  • Mental rituals (praying, counting, reviewing)

  • Repeating actions or phrases

  • Seeking reassurance from others

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder affects about 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children in the United States.

How We Treat OCD

At Careful Counseling, we offer a gold-standard, structured treatment for OCD called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)—a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that’s proven to work.

Our Treatment Approach Includes:

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): Gradually face triggering thoughts, images, or situations without engaging in compulsions.

  • Cognitive Restructuring: Learn to respond to intrusive thoughts with less fear and greater psychological flexibility.

  • Psychoeducation: Understand how OCD tricks the brain—and why avoiding triggers only reinforces the cycle.

  • Supportive Coaching: Build confidence in facing discomfort and develop long-term resilience.

What Makes Our Practice Unique

We are one of the few therapy groups in the region offering virtual ERP sessions, home-based exposure support, and specialized treatment for Pure O (obsessional OCD without visible compulsions), religious scrupulosity, and harm OCD.

We treat children, teens, and adults struggling with any form of OCD—including those who have tried therapy before without success.

You Don’t Have to Keep Suffering
